We appreciate the importance of a nurturing environment and playful education in moulding and developing the child, in order to provide them with the best possible preparation for the big, wide world.
Regular Food Hygiene and Health and Safety standards are upheld using appropriately qualified personnel. Our hygiene records are updated throughout each day.
Located at 534 Queensferry Road and accessed from Barton Grove, our Barnton nursery was established to serve the large community on the western side of Edinburgh.
The commodious, elegant building, with it’s suite of bright spacious rooms and a large garden, makes an ideal nursery establishment. Security is always of upmost importance and both our entry gate and the front door are fitted with security keypads. In addition, a full CCTV system is fitted throughout the building.
The nursery provides separate areas for the main age groups, ranging from babies to pre-schoolers. We accommodate a maximum of 29 under twos and 32 two to five year olds. In addition, there is a soft play area for each age group to enjoy when the weather is not suitable for garden play. A conservatory creates a tranquil and airy space for babies to sleep in their prams, although in good weather, a secure garden is also available with parents consent. French doors from the baby play room lead directly onto the enclosed and canopied play area.
Although there is an important social mixing at certain times, during outside play for example, which is useful for children of different ages. Each age group are supervised in their own playroom.
Children under two years are cared for and entertained in three sunny playroomsdownstairs. Parents can provide meals and microwaves are used to heat food in their own containers to minimise any change of cross contamination. Nutritious lunches prepared by a fully qualified dietician are available as an alternative to packed lunches.
The three to five year old children are accommodated on the upper floor in four lively playrooms, one of which is set up for extra art and ‘messy’ activities, and another as a children’s kitchen for pre-school cooking and baking.
Our pre-school staff plan interesting curriculum throughout the year and personnel work as a team in delivery the syllabus. Personnel are committed to ongoing training and regularly attend seminars relating to child educations, which are funded by Lothian Region’s Education Department.
Education Department
Education funding is available to all parents during the 2 years prior to their child starting school.
Child profiles and development reports are kept up to date and are available for parents’ perusal at any time.
We enjoy relations with our local church, 'Cramond Kirk', the neighbouring retirement home and with other nurseries and schools in the vicinity.
Royal Mile
Access from the historic Stamp Office Close at 215 High Street near the top of Cockburn Street, this nursery was established in 1982 and has been one of the Lesley Bothwell nurseries since 1985.
Neatly and attractively laid out in a historic building, the Royal Mile can take a maximum of 20 children between the ages of three months and five years.
The little ones, aged between three – eighteen months, are housed in a cosy, fully equipped playroom, which accommodates up to six children. The babies also enjoy their own enclosed and canopied outdoor crawling and toddling area. Double pushchairs are used to take babies for walks to Princes Street Gardens.
Older children enjoy a larger, airy room, which boasts a house and story corner, water, sand, clay and play dough trays, a painting and drawing easel, junk modelling, farm and railway sets, jigsaws, board games and construction toys and early literacy and numeracy tables.
There is a large and secure external paved area offering safe outdoor play facilities for drama, team games and gymnastics. The front door is fitted with a security keypad ensuring the safety of the children. Staff make much use of local amenities for children’s outings including the museums, art galleries, library and train station, St Giles, Princes Street Gardens, Holyrood Park and the castle. Taxis are used for outings to more rural surroundings than the city centre can offer.
We enjoy relations with our local church ‘Old St Pauls’ and with other nurseries nearby.
We will meet your personal needs, whether you need full or part-time care for your children. We offer nurseries with excellent facilities, along with flexible hours.

Nursery personnel offer baby-sitting at your home for social nights out. By attending one of the nurseries, your child would know their babysitter. We do not take any responsibility for private arrangements between parents and personnel.
