Feeding & Sleeping

Every child is unique with their own feeding, sleeping and play routines, likes and dislikes. Your child’s appointed carer will learn about their personal preferences and habits from you and from your child, ensuring they feel secure, content, comforted and loved. Our daily routine is flexible to allow us to fully harmonise with home in this way.

Security & Safety

The courtyard entry gate and front door are fitted with security keypad / Yale locks, ensuring the safety of all children. Health and safety standards are supervised by a designated team member and upheld by all.

Facilities, Fun & Learning

At Royal Mile Nursery, fun and learning are the same thing. Children foster their social, physical, mental, emotional and language skills through playing, daily activities, exploring, experimenting, interacting, observing others and problem solving - all through the medium of play. We have to admit, we learn something new every day as well! All team members are enthusiastic life-long learners and we too enjoy learning new things from the children everyday.

Equipment & Activities

We have fully equipped play rooms to cater for all ages as well as a canopied outdoor segregated play area with artificial turf and rubber mats. We love our large and secure courtyard, which offers safe outdoor play facilities for drama, team games, gardening and gymnastics. Our new summerhouse is a designated laboratory for science experimentation, technology and nature study.

We like to take babies and children on frequent walks to the nearby Princes Street Gardens. We make much use of a range of local amenities for children’s outings; the museums, art galleries, library and train station, St Giles’ Cathedral, Princes Street Gardens, Holyrood Park and the castle, to name but a few. Contracted private coach hire or train is used for outings to rural amenities like Almond Valley Heritage Centre, Cramond Foreshore and Cammo Estate, where the children revel in outward bound pursuits.

All our staff are fully trained and experienced in the Curriculum for Excellence and early years’ education and development standards and guidelines.

Parents

As a parent, you will also have your own way of doing things along with your own concerns, worries and stresses of everyday life. Our aim is to give you as much peace of mind as we possibly can:
  • You are always welcome to call us to check on the wellbeing of your baby.
  • We keep a detailed record of your child’s day and your child’s key carer will go through this with you.
  • Families are invited to come for as many introductory visits as they wish.
  • Regular parent evenings and social events help to ensure a strong link between home and nursery.

Food

Nutritious lunches are prepared by a fully qualified dietician, or children can bring in their own food from home. Our hygiene records are updated throughout each day and food hygiene standards are upheld by appropriately qualified members of staff.
